Erasmus+: Multilingual guide for tourists

And here is the result of our Erasmus+ project:

This is the most important output of our strategic partnership, due to its complexity and the need of transnational collaboration. Students from the three schools have collaborated online in order to create this multilingual guide for tourists. We have divided the guide in sections and each school has been in charge of the English version of some of them, although collaboration of all schools has been essential in order to complete the translations and audio files in all four languages.

We hope you will find it useful when travelling to any of our countries. You will enjoy it better if you click on full screen.

Flemish and Sardinian students at Laskorain!

Our Flemish and Sardinian partners have been with us in Tolosa, and we have had a wonderful time.

On our first day, our headmaster Kepa Goikoetxea welcomed our guests:

We carried out some dynamics to let students meet each other:

Besides, Tolosa's mayor, Olatz Peon, welcomed the project officially at the Town Hall:

Here is a video that the media published about this event.

During the exchange, we carried out some of the project activities using ICT like google drive or Dotsub. We worked on the multilingual guide, and we started recording the expressions in the different languages. At the beginning they found the procedure quite complex, but they all learned how to do it and we are proud to say that much of the work was accomplished successfully:

We also translated a Basque song into Dutch. It had previously been translated into Sardinian and English, and this was the song that our Flemish and Sardinians learnt so that we could sing it altogether during the farewell party.

But apart from working, we also wanted our guests to know a little bit about the Basque country. We visited Donostia, Zugarramurdi, Baiona and we had a great time.

Basque students in Hasselt

2. Hasselt (Flanders)

Our second transnational meeting and first transnational learning activity for students took place in Hasselt from Sunday 10 April till Saturday 16 April. The Flemish were happy to host us and Sardinian friends. We participated in our host's family life and could experience what the daily life of Flemish pupils is like.
They introduced us to some important Flemish/Belgian cities and cultural events: we visited Hasselt, Leuven, Bokrijk and Brussels where we visited the cities' most important highlights, we were provided with some historical background information and in Brussels we visited, of course, the European Parliament.
During this well - filled week we were also able to achieve many of the project goals. First of all, the linguistic competence of our pupils increased considerably. In the beginning of the exchange communication may have been a bit awkward but by the end of the week the pupils were able to communicate fairly fluently. As the pupils are interested in languages they spontaneously compared their mother tongues, both the language itself and its position in today's society. This process was stimulated by the language activities at school: a language quiz, language classes, research into the history of our (minority) languages, the creation of linguistic family trees etc. As a result our pupils are more aware of the position of our languages in Europe. This information has been and will be shared with their peers, their families and friends.
Time flew past this week and we all had a very exciting, instructive and exhausting experience. And very important: we are still in touch and we are looking forward to meeting again in Tolosa!

      FALSE FRIENDS

"False friends" are pair of words in two languages that look or sound similar but differ significantly in meaning. One of the most popular examples is the Spanish word "embarazada" and the English word "embarrassed", which look similar but are very different in meaning.

As I was correcting your reader exams, I realised that some of you were being victims of false friends, so I thoight it might be a good idea to provide you with a list of the most common false friends. Here you are!
