LOVE STORY by Leire A. (DBH2)

The truth is never easy to tell, especially when it concerns matters of the heart. But I’ll tell you my story anyway. It all began when I was a kid, back at Primary school. I noticed her on the first day, and I guess she noticed me too. We were both seven but she was the first girl I kissed. We used to play at her house, every weekend. I wasn’t interested in anybody, or anything else. She was my life.

And then, three months later, she said that her family was moving to Australia. I said ´Oh that’s OK. I’ll visit you; but she told me that it was thousands of miles away, and that she wouldn’t be coming back. Then once she had really gone, I had to accept that I would never see her again.

Years went, and I became very sad and I was a very lonely boy, without her I wasn’t the same, my world had been changed. I fell in a horrible depression and I stayed in the hospital many times because I started feeling tired as I didn’t eat much. I stayed in the hospital for a year to cure of a depression.

Ten years later, when I was totally recuperated I decided to go to Australia, to see my love because I couldn’t live without her. I went to the airport with my saddlebag and I bought a ticket to go to Australia. When I arrived at Sidney I took a car and I went to Balart, the city where my love was from. Days went by, but I didn’t find her yet.

One day when I was drinking a cola calmly in a bar, suddenly I saw a beautiful and young woman in the park playing with a little boy.

-That woman… I think that I have seen her somewhere but I don’t remember where- I said confused.

Then, I recognized a tattoo on her neck, it was a big flower.

-That flower…, oh yes! It’s her! My love!-I shouted.

The woman that was next to me drinking a coffee looked at me so surprised that she went running, because she thought that I was mad. So I went as fast as I could to the park to talk to Sophie, that beautiful girl I loved since I was a baby.

-Hi! Are you Sophie? - I asked.

-Yes- she said.

-I am Thomas, that boy that always was bothering you at school- I said joking.

-Oh Thomas! What are you doing here? - she asked me.

- I have come to see you- I said.

-Who is he? - I asked about the baby.

- He is my son, Thomas- she replied.

-Your baby… - I said a bit unhappy- oh, so, you are married.

-Yes I am married; he is my husband John- Sophie said a bit worried about me.

-Hi! - said John very kindly.

-Well I have to go- I said. I couldn’t see her with her husband holding his hand so happy. I felt how my heart was breaking little by little.

The next day I took a plane to go back home and nowadays, every night, I dream that one day she will come to me, but this is still only a dream.

  1. Thank you for your nice story, Leire. It's very romantic. I wouldn't like to be in your main character's place, to be honest. I felt pity for him. But that's life and that's love!
