FAIRY TALE by Ainhoa S. (DBH2)

Once upon a time, in a land of the north where the days were short and the nights were long, there lived a king who would listen to no-one but his counsellor. The king had no children, and his wife had died long ago. The king was kind, and thought that the counsellor was a good man, for he thought that everyone was good. But the counsellor was really a wicked man, and planned to become the king himself.

One day, the king called the counsellor to him. ‘Wisest counsellor’ he began. ‘There is something I must tell you. It is not true that I have no children. Many years ago, we had a beautiful daughter. But when she was a baby, she was cruelly stolen from us, and we have never seen her again. Soon I will die, and she must be queen. You must find her for me. Find her now!’

The counsellor plotted a plan that night. He wanted to be the king, so he was not going to find the princess; he was going to say she was dead.

He started his travel the next day. He walked through the cities that were near the castle and then he went to the far cities. When he was in the last city that he was going to visit, he saw a beautiful girl, and he fell in love. He followed the girl into the streets, and when she had gone into her house, he knocked at the door. A man came out and said: “Do you want something?” “Yes.” replied the man” I have seen a beautiful girl coming here…” he started. “There is no girl here!” shouted the man and he slammed the door.

The next day the counsellor saw the girl again, but this time he asked her to stop. The girl started running but the counsellor was quicker and caught her. “Why are you escaping from me?” But the girl started running again and this time he couldn’t catch her.

The counsellor came back to the castle, but the girl was also in love and she followed him. Then the king saw her and he shouted: “Princess!”

She was the princess but the counsellor didn’t know it. Then the princess was crowned and she married the counsellor.

  1. Thank you, Ainhoa, for your nice fairy tale. Sometimes, being wicked has its reward, as in the case of your counsellor here, whose plans were different but who finally got what he wanted: to be the king, or rather, the husband of the Queen. In this case love is the one to blame. Well done!
